Beyond The Pickled Egg

Steven Davey

Most drinkers’ interest in food may not extend beyond a packet of crisps with their two pints of lager. But those whose pub-grub palates stretch beyond pickled eggs (the Communist Daughter’s red-wine-pickled beauties win that contest, by the way) can fine-dine and wine.

Still having trouble getting laid? Then head straight for this super-sexy spot where former Focaccia chef Sam Gassira has created an interim menu for the just-opened lounge. Besides life-sized nude statues emerging from walls and a fully functional stripper’s pole, regulars swing on genre-busting nibbles like rabbit and pancetta terrine ($8), Marsala-marinated short rib ravioli ($14) and saffron vanilla crème brûlée ($7).
