There were 12 people in our party and it was everyone’s first time to Laide. Our waitress and the bartender that night were awesome. The entire party thought the service and atmosphere was great – a perfect venue choice for a stagette! Especially since we got the bride-to-be to do her stripper rendition on the stripper pole! Betty what a party! - Sunday, April 03, 2005 Last night we had our engagement party (reason to get drunk) at ... Laide. It was such an awesome night. Everyone had a fantastic time and the staff at Laide were fantastic. We had everyone put in $10 to go towards food and the spread they gave us was beyond my expectations. Hors d’oeuvres were coming out all night and they finished it off with a cheese platter and awesome fruit platter. If anyone is thinking of having an easy going party this is the place to do it. Most people did not notice the porn, and everyone had a fantastic time. We are nursing fuzzy heads but we had so much fun. The word got out that we were there having a party and we had close to 60 people show up inprompto!(sp?) What an awesome night. Additionally, the service is gushingly charming and the price is not so alarming when compared to other wonderfully calibrated haunts. Expect intimate conversation, unbridled drink, eclectic music and simple retirement outside of a normal evening routine. A fine dining restaurant it’s not, although it could be it’s little, bad brother. It allows ordinary people like me to be extraordinarily ordinary. All the best, Matt Joice Tim - Saturday, December 11, 2004 Laide is a place I’ve wanted to try out since I first read about it on Toronto.com earlier this year. It sounded a little funky, a little risque, and amazingly tasty, without being prohibitively expensive. So, seeing what I was going on a date with someone I was pretty comfortable with, it seemed like the perfect chance to try it out... That kind of set the mood for the evening. My date arrived and we ordered some cocktails. I had the Nymphomaniac - spiced rum, peach schnapps & malibu, and she had the Illicit Love - cranberry vodka, cherry brandy & lemon juice. Both were very good. The food is served in a tasting-menu type format. Not exactly like tapas, but similar in that two dishes isn’t really enough for two people. So, we shared all the food we ordered: Boston lettuce, fresh pear, sugar walnuts, roquefort dressing: This was nice. The walnuts were a surprise, sweet and very good. I found the dressing a little on the strong side, but my date loved it. Squash and ricotta ravioli: This was a little on the cold side when it arrived, but it was very, very tasty. Organic noodle, bison and french lentil ragù: Oh, this was nice. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the bison was so flavourful and just made my mouth sing. Braised veal osso buco, sage and cremini mushroom gravy: By far, the best thing we ate (well, that was savoury!) was the veal. The meat fell apart just by looking at it, and it was like eating sex. This was unreal, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The dishes range in price from about $9 to $16. This was all tied together with a very nice Chianti. For desert, I had wanted to try their saffron and vanilla crème brulee, and my date had the chocolate mousse. These were, by far, the best examples of these two dishes I’ve ever had. ... that is all I can do to describe how good these deserts were. Sex, in chocolate and crème anglais form. So there you have it. Amazing service, provided by people who are truly friendly and want everyone to have a good time. The food is superlative, on par with the best I’ve ever had. The place is comfortable to be in, has lots of cozy nooks for cuddling, should you want to do such a thing, and while it’s a little on the pricy side for a standard night out, it’s a great destination for either cocktails and desert, or for a fancy night out.
